I went skiing and took videos with my HD 1080p camcorder. When I watch them on PC, they are choppy. Why?

I have a JVC HD1080p handheld camcorder that I used to film some skiing. When I loaded the clips onto my PC and tried to play them, they were slow, choppy, and just a mess. I planned on making an overall video using the clips I shot from the camera using Windows Movie Maker. I'm not sure if I can get the 1080p clips on Windows Movie Maker so they are clear and if I can even burn those to a DVD. Is there a 1080p to DVD converter???? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
