I have a coin which depicts a wounded soldier being carried by a fellow military man, why does it make me sad?

Because it is very sad. Someones son is carrying someones son who is wounded. The scars from both of these heroic sons, most likely, will never fully heal. And, without actually knowing you, I like you because the depiction on the coin makes you sad.
